Wawel has long remained a symbol of history, art, and royal Kraków. It is a place where the city’s old stories still live on through its architecture, details, and the atmosphere of the hill overlooking the Vistula River.
Inside the royal chambers, visitors can discover collections of artworks, tapestries (large decorative woven “paintings” once created for kings), and interiors that remember the times of Polish monarchs. A walk through the Wawel courtyards and walls reveals a quieter side of the city - filled with views of the Vistula, historic streets, and the greenery surrounding the hill.
Wawel is also home to the legend of the Wawel Dragon, a story that has shaped the atmosphere of this place for generations and remains one of Kraków’s most famous tales.
