Established on the initiative of Andrzej Wajda, the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology is a place combining the functions of a museum and a cultural center promoting knowledge of Japan and the Far East.
The Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology building was designed by prominent architect Arata Isozaki. To fund the construction of the museum, Andrzej Wajda donated the Kyoto Prize which he received in 1987 (about $400,000). The museum is named after the nickname of Feliks Jasieński, who donated his collection of Japanese art to the National Museum in 1920. It includes, among other things: woodcuts, everyday objects and Japanese militaria. The museum hosts demonstrations, workshops, and concerts.
